While the Augusta of the North does not have the sweeping grandeur of our American cousins in Georgia, we complement a cracking MacKenzie course with a welcoming County Durham reception in a clubhouse recently refurbished at a cost of £20,000.
This is one of the jewels in our crown. Our butchers, Hanley & Swinbank, source the fresh meat we serve locally from farmers in Lanchester, Spennymoor and Witton le Wear, which explains the popularity of our carvery on Sunday lunchtimes.
A menu which serves excellent wholesome food and includes an all-day breakfast is available between 11am and 7pm.
Visiting parties teeing off earlier can arrange their own breakfast time, even if it’s no more than a bacon butty, by ringing clubhouse manager Malcolm Kay on 07432 690159 or ringing 01207 232848 and waiting for extension 4 to be called up. Please do so well in advance. Vegetarian or gluten free options are available for all meals.
Malcolm, our genial mine host, is supported by helpers Heather, Pauline and Sam and cares passionately about keeping golfers happily fed and watered. He has South Moor Golf Club stamped on his soul.
