Pam Tate is our 2016 Lady Captain. Renowned throughout the club as a charming and effective organiser, Pam lives in Langley Park, where the late Sir Bobby Robson grew up, is 50 years old and works as the Head of European Accounts Payable & Expenses for Amec Foster Wheeler Group Ltd. This is her captain’s message . . .
It is a privilege and an honour to have been selected as Lady Captain for 2016. I am absolutely delighted and would like to thank Lesley Jennings, our immediate past Lady Captain, for giving me this opportunity. I would like to wish our Men’s Captain Colin Howe, Junior Captain Josh Hogarth and my Vice-Captain Pauline Dobson the very best of luck. Pauline is a record holder having won the Durham Ladies Championship nine times before retiring from county competition.
I love my golf club and hope all our members, their guests and our visitors, enjoy the use of our excellent facilities throughout the golfing year and experience the uniquely friendly and welcoming atmosphere South Moor has to offer. I am one of five of my family who are members. My husband Jeff, nephew Sean Bailey and nieces Abbi Wheatley and Morgan Bailey also play at South Moor.
Abbi did her family and her golf club proud in 2015 with a successful debut season in competitive golf. Abbi’s picture is below and you can read about her achievements and see more pictures by visiting the NEWS section of this website, both under Press Releases and Performance of the Month.
South Moor is a beautiful, picturesque and mature course in superb condition thanks to the tireless efforts of our green staff. Our course provides an exciting challenge no matter what level of golf you play. Then after your round of golf you can relax in our clubhouse or visit our pro shop for the latest superb offers.
The ladies section is small, friendly and forward looking, providing a fantastic combination of competitions throughout the year. These range from qualifying medals and stablefords to team, individual, doubles and mixed competitions to cater for everyone’s abilities. (See fixture list).
We also have a busy social calendar for the ladies section with weekends away, games nights, Halloween and Christmas parties.
Over the course of the year I hope both members and visitors will kindly support my chosen charity, the Great North Air Ambulance. Their slogan is: “We need your help today, will you need ours tomorrow?” There will be various events over the course of the year to raise money for this excellent cause.
Finally, I would like to wish all our members, visiting friends and societies a great year’s golf at South Moor Golf Club.
