Welcome to South Moor Golf Club Junior Section.
I would like to begin by introducing myself. My name is Scott Mitchell and I am the Junior Liaison Officer (JLO) for South Moor Golf Club.
What is our aim and what do we offer?
We run weekly coaching session for youngsters from the ages of three to 12.
Every Wednesday evening, from 6pm to 7pm, we have a dedicated team of volunteers to assist the club’s PGA professionals.
This costs £2 a week and the youngsters can wear jeans and trainers. All equipment is provided free.
During the summer months the coaching sessions are conducted outside on the all-weather Short Game Practice Area, the driving range and the putting green.
During the winter months, the golf sessions are brought indoors and into the main bar of the golf club. We lay on an indoor putting green, plastic golf equipment and sponge balls to aim at targets to maintain the youngsters’ enthusiasm.
To encourage the youngsters, we run competitions for beginners and more advanced players from April to October each year.
We offer a seven-hole or nine-hole competition depending on ability, giving youngsters the opportunity to go out and play on the course and to start to learn the rules.
These are normally run every second Saturday and start around 2.0pm. Our aim is to get the beginners to the advanced level.
These are the youngsters who have an official CONGU handicap at South Moor. They compete every second Saturday from 1.30pm and represent the junior section against other clubs throughout the county as an individual . . . or as part of a team league competition hosted by South Moor and other clubs belonging to the Durham County Junior Golf Society.
Parents or guardians can feel free to bring their youngsters along to our Wednesday evening sessions to see how it all works. Please book in the youngsters by phoning the direct line to our PGA pros in the CustomFitGolf shop – Shaun Cowell and Mark Ridley – on 01207 283525.
Look forward to seeing you there!
Junior Captain 2015.
Being appointed as the 2015 South Moor Junior Captain is a great honour.
I would like to wish all the Junior members the best of luck for the up and coming golfing season.
I hope that with the help of our ever helpful JLO Scott Mitchell we can offer support and advice to any Junior who has a question or concern.
My aim for this season is to encourage the juniors to progress their skills on the course and to widen their knowledge of the rules of golf.
The Junior Section also welcome the arrival of the new all weather practice area, it’s there for our future so lets get it used!.
Finally I would like to wish The Gents Ladies and Senior Section all the very best for 2015
